Individual Art Therapy Sessions

Gain personal well-being, healing, and improved levels of functioning through private, individual therapeutic art therapy sessions at our Sunshine Coast studio. We provide individual art therapy for adults, and children from 5 years. Private art therapy sessions provide the opportunity for healing in a safe and confidential space.


Art therapy allows you to explore emotions and gain personal insights.  It is suitable for working through trauma and grief, and it has been shown to help with depression, anxiety, and stress.  It can help boost self-esteem and support clients dealing with a broad range of mental health conditions.


It allows you to work through emotional and mental health issues via the therapeutic process of creating art with a skilled and qualified therapist to guide and support you.  You will work on individual therapeutic goals with your therapist and be guided through the process of creating a piece of art and exploring that artwork for personal meaning.

Individualised goals

You will identify individual, therapeutic goals and sessions are tailored specifically to you. Your Art Therapist Jacqui is skilled at making a connection with her clients so they can discover and unlock their full human potential.

Improved functioning

As you make the art, you may explore what you have created and how it makes you feel. With your Art Therapist's experienced guidance, you can begin to identify and to express emotions to allow them to be processed in a way that supports personal growth.

Personal well-being

Through exploring your art, you can identify themes and conflicts that may be affecting your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This recognition can help find a path to resolution, acceptance, and increased well-being.

How Therapeutic Art Sessions at Freestyle Arts Work

Step 1: Make an appointment for your individual therapeutic art activities online or over the phone for your preferred time. All conversations are confidential and sessions run for an hour.  


Step 2: On arrival for your first session you will complete forms pertaining to confidentiality, consent, and legal obligations.  See where we are.


Step 3: Establish your therapeutic goals and engage in a short visualisation for grounding. Your Art Therapist Jacqui will help you establish your therapeutic goal and lead you through this visualisation to get started.


Step 4: Make an artwork using the medium chosen by the therapist. Jacqui will individually guide you through the process of creating art and then exploring that artwork to gain clarity and insight around your therapeutic goal.


Step 5: Explore your artwork with your therapist, answering the question, "what do you see?" rather than "what did you draw?" Often new perspectives arise from this experience, providing an opportunity for healing in a safe space.


Step 6: Gain insight and self-awareness through the process.  Clients enjoy the therapeutic benefits of art and are supported to relate any gained insights back to their therapeutic goal. Clients may take the artwork created home if they wish.
